Shane is a consultant in Genetic Medicine at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust based at Belfast City Hospital. His main current interest is the use of genomic technologies in the diagnosis and management of children and adults with rare genetic syndromes, and he leads the Northern Ireland contribution to the UK 100,000 Genomes Project. He wrote his first electronic patient record for the Psion palmtop computer as a junior doctor in the 1990s, and is now Chief Clinical Information Officer for the Belfast Trust, as well as Deputy Clinical Lead for the Encompass Project - Northern Ireland's journey to a regional electronic medical record infrastructure. He also enjoys getting out on the bike and exploring interesting places.
